“So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.” (Rev.3:16)
I know that the phrase in the title is something borrowed from the world of gambling, which I do not endorse. But there is a gamble that we sometimes make if we are not careful. Some want to dabble in Christianity. They want to follow it to some extent, but they don’t want to give themselves fully to it. Maybe we have been guilty of this at times. We may have excused it by twisting a Scripture or two. We know that we are supposed to seek first the kingdom of God (Matt.6:33), so as long as we put God first, then we can order our priorities any way we wish. But, God never intended us to check him off the list, as though we have done the God-thing and now we can move on to other stuff. God wants to occupy every place in our lives. He wants our whole heart. We are either all his or none of his. There is no in-between. Don’t gamble with your soul by holding back. Let’s give it all to God.
“Father, you mean everything to us. We know that without you we would have nothing and we would be nothing. You give our lives purpose and meaning. Help us to give you our whole hearts. We want to be consumed by you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
